Coastal Cruises 2020

Cruise to Hull Marina

Storms permitting

There seems to be quite a lot of interest from members to take their boats down the Humber (and back 😰) so I thought I would try to organise something.

The dates have not been set however, due to tides we are restricted to certain times

The general plan would be as follows:

Friday

Leave SYBC

Overnight in Goole

Saturday

Lock through onto Humber (-3 hours to +1.5 hours Goole high water)

Cruise to Hull Marina (-2 hours to +2 hours high water Hull Alexander Dock)

rest of day in Hull. lots to see and explore or lazy day on boat.

Evening meal with all at Wings (www.wingsinternationalcuisine.co.uk)

Sunday

Pen through onto Humber

Cruise to Goole

Lock through to Aire and Calder Navigation

Cruise to Great Heck

Possible dates due to tides are:

Friday 13th March to Sunday 15th March

Friday 27th March to Sunday 29th March

Friday 10th April to Sunday 12th April

Friday 24th April to Sunday 26th April

Friday 1st May to Sunday 3rd May

perhaps you have noticed a pattern; basically every 2 weeks the tide is roughly okay

Once a date has been fixed the exact timings can be worked out. I would arrange the time with Ocean Lock and it is important to be there about 30 minutes before the appointed time.

All members with appropriate (and inappropriate) boats and equipment are welcome to come along however, it has to be emphasised that ALL boats and crews PARTAKE AT THEIR OWN RISK and each crew is responsible for their personal passage plans.

Many people will tell you the Humber is the second most dangerous river in the UK, but treat it with respect and it can be an awful lot of fun. If you are doing this for the first time there are quite a few things you need to be aware of and I can walk you through some of them and offer assistance in planning, safety equipment, charts, radio and radio frequencies being top of the list. This will follow in a second communication once I have a list of participants (AKA fools who are willing to follow me 😰)

Looking forward to hearing from you
